November 21, 2022; Senegal vs the Netherlands. This kickoff would be the start of the Dutch World Cup campaign, on their way to their ultimate goal; the World Cup final. The 2022/23 home shirt would be one for the history books, as it was worn during the most prestigious sports tournament in the world. 

The Campaign

The Netherlands started their journey with a 2-0 win against Senegal, from Sadio Mane and Kalidou Koulibaly. The goals were scored by Cody Gakpo and Davy Klaassen. They played a balanced game, dictating the rhythm and not giving away many big chances. This was the start the Dutch hoped for. After beating Senegal and securing the first 3 point, the Dutchmen had to face Ecuador; a strong physical side with some top players. The Netherlands grabbed an early lead, with once again Code Gakpo scoring the 1-0 in the 6th minute. The remaining of the first half would be somewhat boring and both teams played careful. Early in the second half, Ecuador scored the equalizer. 1-1 was the score on the score board, as the referee blew the final whistle. A solid performance from both sides resulted in a draw. 

Ecuador and the Netherlands now were both on 4 points. The next opponent was Qatar, the host of the World Cup. Although the match was very one-sided, the Netherlands could only make it a 2-0 win. Ecuador lost their game against Senegal, which meant the Netherlands topped their group and advanced to the round of 16. They had to take on the United Stated on December the 3rd. Thanks to an amazing performance from Memphis Depay, the Netherlands secured a 3-1 win. Most of the possession and shots were in favor of the USA. 

The whole nation got ready when they saw Argentina win their game. Once again, ''Oranje'' had to take on the Argentinians. This would be one of the most historic games of the World Cup. Argentina were 2 goals up but thanks to 2 goals from Wout Weghorst, of which one in the dying second, the Netherland made it 2-2 and the game got to extra time and even penalties. Thanks to a confident Lionel Messi, Argentina secured the win with penalties. This would be the end of Louis van Gaal's and the Dutch' World Cup campaign. 

The Shirt

The 2022/23 Netherlands home shirt is very popular among collectors and can be found in collections of many Dutchmen. Manufactured by Nike, the shirt features a shiny, orange pattern which we hadn't seen earlier. The shiny pattern got quite some credits as it was the only team manufactured by Nike that had this feature, which made it even more unique. Wout Weghorst his 2nd goal against Argentina was one of the highlight from the tournament. Despite the early exit in the tournament, the shirt still brought many positive memories and was worn by a young, new era of Dutch players. It was worn by older, experienced players such as Virgil van Dijk and Memphis Depay, as well as young prospects like Jurrien Timber and Xavi Simons.
