Our honest opinion

If you have ever hesitated before buying an original football shirt because of the price, you are not alone. With cheaper alternatives everywhere online, it's fair to ask yourself if an original shirt is really worth it. As one of two owners of Football Shirt Paradise, I have seen why so many collectors and football fans choose original shirts. From the quality and details to the history and feeling behind the shirt, there is much more to an original football shirt than simply wearing your favourite team's colours. Here is why we believe an original shirt is worth it.

Quality and durability

It is no secret that authentic shirts are of better quality than fakes, but the difference is often huge. Original fan version shirts are built to last for years, even with heavy use. The material is more expensive, and manufacturers have the resources and techniques to produce a durable shirt.

They cannot supply poor-quality products, as doing so would damage the club's reputation and branding. Manufacturers of counterfeit shirts, on the other hand, aim to maximize profits and can afford to lose some points on the quality.

More than a shirt

A football shirt represents more than its colours and design. It can be linked to a specific club, player, season or important moment in football history. That is one of the reasons original shirts are collected and kept for years.

Buying an original also means getting a shirt that was officially produced by the manufacturer for the club or national team. The materials, labels, badges, stitching and other details are made according to the specifications of that particular shirt. A fake one may look similar, but is not an officially produced shirt and the details can differ from the original.

For collectors, that authenticity matters. You are not just buying something that looks like the shirt from a certain season; you are buying the actual official version from that period, as a piece of football history.

They keep their value

Original football shirts can become more valuable over time because shirts from older seasons are no longer being produced. Once a season is over, that specific shirt is no longer made by the manufacturer, making authentic older shirts harder to find as time goes on. Fake shirts, however, can still be produced years later and made to look like shirts from older seasons. This means an original shirt is a product from its actual period, rather than a copy that can be reproduced at any time. If you keep an original shirt in good condition, there is a good chance its value will increase within a few years.

Fake shirt Original shirt
Average retail price €30 €90
Quality Not durable and untidy/uncomfortable fabric Durable, high-quality and comfortable fabric
Emotional worth An unofficial counterfeit product A real piece of football history
Investment Price won't increase Price increases over time

Which one should you choose?

Of course, the choice is completely yours. We understand why some people choose a fake shirt, especially when an original can easily cost around €90 or more. For many people, that price difference is simply too large.

That said, we believe an original football shirt is worth the extra money. They are made to last, can retain their value over time, and generally feel much better to wear. If you are going to buy a shirt that you want to keep for years or wear in sporting activities, an original is the better choice.
