The Barcelona 2019/20 away shirt is a tribute to the Blaugrana away shirt from the Johan Cruyff era. The shirt has the same yellow base and a diagonal Blaugrana line dividing the shirt in two. Many see Johan Cruyff as the inventor of modern football. Cruyff brought his ideology from Ajax and the Netherlands to Barcelona, where he was both manager and football player. In his time at the club, he set the standards on how to play football and how to act. Since Johan Cruyff's arrival, La Masia became much more important for the club and it would soon be the main pillar for the club.
In the 2019/20 season, Barcelona ended up finishing 2nd in LaLiga, just behind their rivals from the capital of Spain. In the Champions League, they got demolished by Bayern: 8-2, in the quarter finals. This was the start of one of the worst era's from the club's history. All due to a failing board and too much spending, paired with disappointing sporting results. Joan Laporta would soon be brought back as president, to restore the club and get them back where they belong. Quique Setien was appointed as manager for the 2019/20 season but he got sacked just after their humiliating Champions League exit. Ronald Koeman was brought in to restore the situation.
