Greece became the first defending champions in European Championship history to finish a tournament without a single point, a stark contrast to their fairytale win at Euro 2004 four years earlier under the same manager, Otto Rehhagel, where they made one of the best teams in Europe.
Drawn in Group D alongside Spain, Russia and Sweden at Euro 2008, Greece lost their opening match 2-0 to Sweden, then 1-0 to Russia, results that confirmed their elimination before their final group game had even been played. With nothing left to play for, Greece put in a spirited display against an already-qualified Spain side, Angelos Charisteas, the man whose header had won the 2004 final, opening the scoring, but Spain came back to win 2-1 and finish the group stage with a perfect record on their way to lifting the trophy. Greece's exit meant they scored only a single goal across the entire tournament, finishing bottom of their group without a point, the worst return by any defending champion in the competition's history.
Made by adidas, this away shirt uses Greece's traditional blue, the colour worn by the national team since the founding of the Hellenic Football Federation, in contrast to the white home kit adopted after the Euro 2004 triumph. The same design carried over into World Cup 2010 qualifying later that year, worn by squad members including captain Giorgos Karagounis and forward Angelos Charisteas as Greece tried to rebuild following their disappointing title defence. This Greece 2008 away shirt comes in size small (S) and excellent condition, as the sizing details in the collar have faded.

Most football shirts from Nike, Adidas, Puma, Hummel, and a few other brands use style codes to verify their authenticity. We always display this code in the images and list it under "notes" on the product pages. Check out our authenticity guide for a step-by-step guide on how to verify if a football shirt is original.
