The 2018/19 Manchester United home shirt was released to mark 140 years since the club was formed as Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Football Club in 1878. Adidas used that railway connection directly in the design, with the red body gradually changing into black towards the bottom. The black continues on the three shoulder stripes and the trim around the collar, while the Adidas logo and Chevrolet sponsor are white. This Man United 2018/19 home shirt comes in size kids S and excellent condition. There is a tiny bobble on the back of the shirt. The Man United football shirt uses CG0048 as style code.
Manchester United started the 2018/19 campaign under José Mourinho, but his third season in charge ended in December after a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool left United sixth in Premier League. Ole Gunnar Solskjær took over as caretaker manager and produced an immediate improvement, including the 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League Round of 16 that sent United through on away goals after losing the first leg 2-0. Solskjær was appointed permanently in March, but results declined again and United finished sixth with 66 points from 38 matches. They were also eliminated by Barcelona in the Champions League quarter finals and by Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup quarter finals. Paul Pogba was the club's leading Premier League scorer with 13 goals, while David de Gea played all 38 league matches.
The railway reference goes back to the club's first recorded identity. Newton Heath was formed by employees of the Carriage and Wagon department at the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway depot in Newton Heath, and the team initially played against other railway departments and companies. The club entered the Football League in 1892, changed its name to Manchester United in 1902 and moved to Old Trafford in 1910. The 2018/19 shirt therefore used the black railway graphic for a specific historical reason rather than simply as a colour choice.
