The Netherlands' football style is built on the principles of Total Football, developed in the 1970s. The team is run by the KNVB and traditionally plays in orange, the color of the Dutch royal house, with the shirt regarded as one of the most stylish in international football across generations of players from Cruyff to Robben. Their home shirts are often a mix of orange and black-and-white.
This shirt was worn during UEFA Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine, a tournament that turned into one of the most disappointing in Dutch history. Drawn into a so-called Group of Death alongside Germany, Portugal and Denmark, the Netherlands lost all three matches, going down 1-0 to Denmark, 2-1 to Germany and 2-1 to Portugal, becoming the only team eliminated in the group stage without taking a single point. Johan Cruyff publicly criticized the squad's build-up play and decision making, and manager Bert van Marwijk, who had led the Dutch to the World Cup final two years earlier, resigned after the tournament.
The shirt itself drew inspiration from the sash worn on the first official Dutch jersey from 1904, reproduced as a tonal print across the torso. Nike named the design "New Masters" inside the collar, a reference to the 17th-century Dutch painters such as Rembrandt and Vermeer, and to the new generation of players expected to write their own history. It was worn by Robin van Persie, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben, three of the most gifted attacking players of their generation, despite the side's failure to deliver on the pitch that summer. This Netherlands shirt comes in size kids extra large (kids XL) and excellent condition, as only the sizing details in the collar are erased. Nike uses 447400-815 as style code for this football shirt.
