Spain's national team is run by the RFEF and went into the 2014 World Cup as reigning champions of the World Cup, Euro 2008 and Euro 2012, the only side in history to have won three consecutive major tournaments. Built around a Barcelona and Real Madrid core, the side had become famous for the tiki-taka style of short passing and possession football under coach Vicente del Bosque, with players such as Iniesta, Xavi and Casillas forming the spine of the team for almost a decade.
The 2014 World Cup in Brazil turned into one of the great shocks in tournament history. Spain opened their campaign against the Netherlands and were beaten 5-1, conceding five goals for the first time in over sixty years of competitive football. A further 2-0 loss to Chile confirmed their elimination after only two matches, the earliest World Cup exit by a defending champion since Brazil in 1966. A consolation 3-0 win over Australia in the final group game was not enough to prevent Spain finishing bottom of Group B, and the golden generation's reign as world champions ended there.
This home shirt was made by Adidas and introduced gold detailing in place of the previous yellow accents, a nod to the side's status as world champions, alongside the red shorts and socks that gave Spain an all-red look for the first time. The front carries a gradient pattern made up of fine vertical stripes, and the shirt was the first Spain kit to carry the FIFA World Champions badge. It was worn by the entire golden generation squad in their final tournament together, including Iniesta, Xavi, Casillas and Diego Costa. The shirt is available in size medium (M) and excellent condition. The sizing details are erased, the climacool text on the bottom is partly cracked and there is a tiny bobble on the upper back of the shirt. The style code for this Adidas and Spain World Cup shirt is G85279.
