PSG football shirts
Paris Saint-Germain was founded on 12 August 1970 because of a merge between Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain, partly crowdfunded by Parisian supporters who wanted a club that could compete with the French football establishment. The merger split again just two years later, sending PSG into the third division. They climbed back to Ligue 1 by 1974, and in 1982 won their first major trophy, the Coupe de France. Their first league title followed in 1986 under manager Gérard Houllier. The Canal+ takeover in 1991 brought significant investment and a run of domestic silverware, including the 1994 Ligue 1 title, before Qatar Sports Investments purchased an 87.5% stake in 2011, fundamentally changing the scale of the club. Since then PSG have won the Ligue 1 title 13 times, including 8 consecutive championships between 2012/13 and 2019/20, and in 2024/25 became the first French club in history to win the continental treble, claiming Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the UEFA Champions League in the same season.
In 2024/25, PSG won Ligue 1 with 84 points from 34 games, finishing 19 points ahead of second-placed Marseille. Mason Greenwood, on loan from Manchester United, and Ousmane Dembélé finished as the joint top scorers in Ligue 1 with 21 goals each. Luis Enrique's side went 30 matches unbeaten in the league, the longest unbeaten run in the division that season. In the 2025/26 season, PSG have once again won Ligue 1, after a somewhat exciting title race with Lens.
Nike has produced PSG's shirts since 1994, a partnership now extended to 2032, making it one of the longest active manufacturer relationships in European football. The defining element of the PSG home shirt across most of its history is the Hechter stripe, a bold red vertical band flanked by thin white lines running down the centre of a navy blue base. The design was created by fashion designer and former club president Daniel Hechter in the 1970s. The width, shade, and positioning of the stripe has shifted over the decades, moving from centre to left and back again, and fading from royal blue to midnight navy, but the core concept has remained the single most recognisable design feature in French club football. This and the partnership with Nike has made PSG one of the most iconic football shirt suppliers in the world of football.
