Nike football shirts
Nike is one of the leading manufacturers in the football shirt world. They make the most shirts out of all brands and have their Nike Swoosh placed on some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Their most memorable partnerships are with Barcelona and PSG, and they were also visible on Manchester United shirts for several years. We made a guide on how to identify an original Nike shirt.
Nike, Jordan and other brands
In the late 2010's, Nike created the Jordan brand, named after famous NBA-star Michael Jordan. This partnership was first used on PSG football shirts, where they made some popular shirts. The PSG 2018/19 third shirt became a fan favourite and the Jordan brand was loved by football fans around the world. Apart from Jordan, Nike also created Nocta together with famous American rapper Drake. This became the shirt manufacturer of Venezia FC.

Nike and football
Nike’s involvement in football started before the brand became a major kit manufacturer. Nike had already produced football boots in the 1970s, while the Tiempo was introduced in 1984, but football remained a relatively small part of the company until the mid-1990s. The 1994 World Cup was an important turning point. After seeing Brazil win the tournament with several players wearing Nike Tiempo boots, Nike founder Phil Knight decided to make football a much bigger part of the company. In 1996, Nike signed an agreement with the Brazilian Football Federation, while its kit portfolio also expanded across clubs and other national teams. By the 1994/95 season, Nike was already supplying clubs including Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais.
The early 2000s brought some of Nike’s most recognisable football shirts. The Total 90 template, introduced in 2004, was used for a large number of Nike teams and became particularly associated with the shirts of clubs and national teams such as Arsenal, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Brazil and the United States. The curved panels, piping, asymmetric details and circular number areas made the shirts easy to identify across the 2004-06 period. Nike’s club portfolio also included major teams such as Manchester United, Arsenal, Barcelona and Inter Milan, while Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy and other national teams became important parts of the brand’s football presence. Players connected with Nike over the years include Ronaldo Nazario, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Neymar, Didier Drogba and, more recently, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Vinicius Junior.
