How Adidas stays on top as a football shirt manufacturer
Football shirts evolve constantly and both the quality and design has to improve every year. During the 2018 World Cup, Adidas stunned the football shirt market by making throwback shirts for their nations, where they made a modern remake of old-school classics. Just like their rivals, they also made special player version football shirts, made with heat pressed logos, lightweight material and different textures to improve player performance.

Adidas as part of football history
Adidas has been part of football since the early years of the brand. The 1954 World Cup was an important moment, when West Germany won the tournament wearing adidas boots with interchangeable screw-in studs. adidas later moved further into football clothing, with the Franz Beckenbauer tracksuit becoming its first major apparel product in 1967. From the 1970 World Cup onwards, Adidas also became the official supplier of the FIFA World Cup match ball. The brand went on to produce shirts for major clubs and national teams including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Juventus, Germany, Argentina and Spain.
One of Adidas’s most recognisable football designs came with the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the Teamgeist template. The curved panel design was used by national teams including Germany and Argentina and then adapted for clubs during the 2006/07 season, including Ajax, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Manchester United and Real Madrid. Players associated with Adidas across different generations include Franz Beckenbauer, Michel Platini, Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham and Lionel Messi, with the current generation including players such as Jude Bellingham, Lamine Yamal and Mohamed Salah. The original Teamgeist design has since been reissued in modern collections, including special editions for major Adidas clubs.
